Vulture’s Feast

As the water is slowly drying up in Katavi we are witnessing the beginning of the extremes that makes Katavi famous, and  large amounts of hippos begin congregating together. With this many personalities together it is only a matter of time before someone gets upset. After picking guests up from the airstrip our guide, Paulo Siololo, came across a road block  - a hippo who had lost a great battle. What a way to enter Chada Katavi!

While one animal losses a battle out in the wild, it always creates another battle and it was lunch time for an uncountable number of vultures!

The following morning Paulo and our guests returned to see what battle was taking place. Much to their surprise there was nothing around the hippo, until from the other side a young lion walked out  with a full belly. A lioness with 2 young cubs had found the hippo and chased away the vultures to feast and claim the hippo as their victory.

Stay tuned as the battle for water begins at Chada Katavi

Thanks to our guide PauloSiololo  for the lion pictures

New Season, New Lions

Katavi is well known for its lion activity and with the start of the new season here at Chada; one of the lionesses of the Katisunga Pride has added 3 new lion cubs to the family! She had them tucked away under some thick bush, however was happy to give us a glimpse of the new family members.

Watch this space as we watch them grow

Mating Puff Adders!

Katavi is full of sightings big and small but it is not too often you get a sighting like this.

We were able to watch them for over 10 minutes before they disappeared into the bush.

Safari Chic Hits Chada!

What happens at Chada......Never stays at Chada!

On safari it is always hard to get those animals to pose just right for you however when it comes to a bunch of strangers who just met you never know what will happen.

All in the name of good old safari fun...however the question remains will Chada be implementing a dress code?

A special thanks to Dan Achber for being the evidence collector
